Yes, we did see the sun this week…

… one afternoon, just enough time for Juliette to run and jump on the patch of grass we call garden.

Cotton and cream

Alice wanted a cream cotton jumper , something like the one she’s seen on Stradivarius website.
Stradivarius is not distributed in the UK…
and anyway, I’ve seen the jumper and was not impressed by the quality of the product…
and anyway, I had some cream cotton in my stash…
and anyway, it always gives me great pleasure to knit for my kids.
I used my stash: Fiorista (88% cotton, 12% polyester) from Gedifra.  The jumper is knitted in round, top-down, I’ve added some short rows to make the back slightly longer.  I did not take any notes and tried to figure out the shape as I was progressing.

The pattern is a simple yo/k2t.

So this is a loose adaptation of the Stradivarius top, but Alice seems quite pleased with the result which is very important.

All is green

0000 TempThe nice warm weather did not last more than a week, and it seems so long ago!
I know plenty of us are going to moan at the sunless sky.  I think we should take lesson from the great nature.  Just a few weeks and every single tree, flower, plant have taken full advantage of the sun.  Everything seemed to have had a blast, exploding with greenery (thank your for the hay fever by the way).
Here is my take on green.
  • Stripy T for a very special (not so little) girl
Green stripy crop top
  • Dragon hat for a (no longer baby) Aussie boy
Crotch the dragon hat
  • PJs bottom for the above mentioned Aussie boy’s mum – Sorry Marie-Pierre, I hoped to have it done before you came, but not a chance…

Ordinary week

Actually, not so ordinary week…

Tuesday, family outing to the US Embassy for our visa interview, then drove Victor back to school and came back to welcome my parents.

Wednesday and Thursday were spent cleaning our house to be ready for our new tenants.

Friday, prepared lunch and shared it with my friends, had a nice chat and a good laugh… then drove to Alice’s school, had grand-daughter/daughter/grand-parents dinner.

Saturday, another nice evening with some friends…

And Sunday, it was Juliette’s communion…

followed by a walk in the country side.

Now we are just one week away from the move… time to get organised… cross some boxes on my ToDo lists…

Reading list

When do you read?

In my case, always, always a few lines, paragraphs, chapters… before falling asleep. Even if I go to bed really late, it helps me to wind down.

I also read during the day, like this morning with a cup of coffee before starting my house chores.  From time to time, I indulge in stolen moments, lying on my bed during the day with a bit of sunshine.  Reading in the tube, in a plan, in the car (not while driving!)…

Here is what I’m reading at the moment:

Kate Atkinson, Behind the Scenes at the Museum, on Alice’s recommendation.  Although she didn’t had to work hard to convince me.  It’s from the same author as Case Histories (Jackson Brodie!).  What I like about this book is the tone, sometimes a young girl speaking, sometimes an adult voice.  It’s a family story from the great-grand mother to Ruby, the young speaker.

Some time ago, I found out that I’m allergic to eggs.  I hope to find some help here.

Not much reading so far, but more going through the pictures.

Did I really need another cooking book?
Not really, but
a) it’s from donna hay,
b) ‘Simply essentials chocolate’ – I needed it,
c) 95p -  a bargain from the charity shop.

Another cooking book, gift from my friend.
I have not experimented with any of the recipes yet and I will probably have to wait until we are settled at our new destination.  In the mean time, I’m enjoying the DVD that comes with the book.

Sunny day

Another week of grey, gloomy weather.

I don’t think I’m too affected by this… but I don’t get it, it’s almost summer and we still did not get an entire day of nice warm weather, so any opportunity to up our vitamin D flowing is good!
